Proclaimed in 2000 by UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Aeolian’s archipelago consists of seven islands: Alicudi, Filicudi, Lipari, Panarea, Salina, Stromboli and Vulcano. All the seven islands are of volcanic origin, but only Stromboli’s and Vulcano’s volcanoes are still active. In the other islands, however, there are still volcanic activities such as fumaroles. Taormina (Sicilian: Taurmina, Greek: Ταυρομένιον Tauromenion, Latin: Tauromenium) is a comune and small town on the east coast of the island of Sicily, Italy, in the Province of Messina, about midway between Messina and Catania.
